The product of 35 years of research and archival work, the Slidefilm History Collection is the only private collection of filmstrips in Hungary. The analogue collection can boast of a nearly complete set of all the educational, popular science and entertainment filmstrips produced in Hungary since the 1920s, including 3,742 Hungarian produced filmstrips as well as 253 slides with voice-overs, 267 filmstrips produced abroad, 898 scripts and a large number of technical devices. The oldest rolls come from the publications of Falu Urániája (Village Urania) and the Budapest Székesfőváros Pedagógiai Filmgyára (Budapest Capital City Pedagogical Film Factory). Representing the filmstrip industry of the 1950s, the Talking Pictures series, which was produced jointly by the Ministry of Religion and Public Education and the Ministry of Public Culture, make up a significant portion of the collection. The assembled items published by the Oktatásügyi Minisztérium Szemléltető Filmkirendeltsége (Visual Aid Film Department of the Ministry of Education) and the Iskolai Filmintézet (School Film Institute) constitute an almost complete collection. Also almost complete is the sub-collection representing the children’s stories and popular science filmstrips issued by the Magyar Diafilmgyártó Vállalat (Hungarian Filmstrip Manufacturing Company). Most of the filmstrips have been kept in their original packaging. The accompanying scripts, instructions for users, contemporary pricelists and catalogues, as well as the voice-overs, are all part of the analogue collection. The filmstrips and framed slides are complemented by a small collection of projectors and technical devices illustrating the technology of filmstrip production. This part of the collection contains all the older types of film projectors sold commercially in Hungary, along with the accompanying technical documentation and manuals. A large collection of printed catalogues offers a wealth of information about the old collections of filmstrips, filmstrip libraries and film and illustrative materials of earlier decades.
